Project
The provisional bike station provides parking facilities for two-wheeled traffic during the construction of the ‘Durchmesserlinie’ (DML) and ‘Europaallee’, until the permanent solution is implemented in connection with the new access. The temporary structure was designed for a service life of ten years.
Architecture
The bike station is located in the existing basement of the partially listed Sihlpost building. Owing to the strict requirements of heritage conservation, fire protection authorities, and the UGZ, as well as tight budget constraints, the architectural concept focuses on enhancing orientation through color and light. The canopy, serving both as a distinctive marker and as weather protection for the stairway with bicycle ramps, makes the facility intuitively identifiable. It consists of a steel structure clad in metal, with the air intake and lighting seamlessly integrated.
Use / Program
The different rooms provide approximately 150 free and about 600 paid bike parking spaces. Staff facilities as well as a staffed supervision area with workshop were integrated into the existing fabric of the Sihlpost.
